I’m a French horn player, when I was 9 years old, I began to learn the horn and the piano as I’m studied in an art primary school. At the beginning, I am not too fond of music, because I needed to practice the boring pieces and repeated to do the same exercises over and over again every day. The other thing is every week I need to go for the several lessons, so that made me hardly have time to play with my friends and impossible to enjoy my childhood time. At that time I am sure I hate the music, but everything seems to be changed when I was successful admitted to the middle school attached to Shanghai conservatory of music.
When I went to the Shanghai conservatory of music I learned what’s the real meaning of music is, and why I have made the choice studied in here. Music, is the only the common language in the world which is can makes people get together to express their feelings with each other and share both gladness and unhappiness by music while we play our instrument. The “ensemble” and “orchestra” are the new part of knowledge to me when I studied in that school. Through those lessons, I played many famous horn ensemble pieces and orchestra excerpts, it was my first time to touch with the sound of harmony and I knew music can be express through by many ways. Sometimes, a good piece or a nice song need more communication and co-operation, it no longer just an individual affair, Since then it makes me more interested in french horn and got new idea to music. I still remember the first orchestra performance in Shanghai, when the music finished, we got the audiences applause for long time, at that time I feel exiting and I proud of us, because before the performance we were rehearsal everyday and very tired. But each player was happy as we known the meaning of success is through by hard work we can be obtained the approval by audience, I m so happy that we got a perfect performance.
Since then, I was keep practice at least 4 hours every day. At the end, I got the place from Yong Siew Toh conservatory of music(NUS) with a full scholarship. When I got the letter of admission of NUS, I was so happy and exiting. Although during these years was very tired and bored, I think I have success. At that time I know music was important to me, and now I’m a musician in YST, I’ll do my best to do every thing.
